Mrs Montagu’s Friends 1 180 x 90cm acrylic on linen 2004 [more work below]
Artist statement: Leonie Cronin paints figurative paintings and draws in a variety of media.
She enjoys painting people and likes to capture essences of human characters. Using symbolism and colour her paintings depict the subject in a context which draws upon the richness of their lives. Her paintings provide a combination of the real and emotional, and she regularly draws life subjects at the Princes Drawing Studio in Old Street.
Her series of paintings of ostrich feathers are based on stories of Mrs. Montagu, a wealthy British social reformer and founder of the blue stocking club who lived on Portman Square. She apparently either decorated a whole room with ostrich feathers instead of wallpaper or she collected feathers from visiting friends and filled an entire canvas to make a feathered wall, these paintings represent Mrs. Montagu and her friends. They were exhibited together to make a feathered room in the bar of the Portman Radisson Hotel.

These are paintings I’ve never seen (apart from the feathers).
I’d buy them if I had any money.
