Yapp finds inspiration in her immediate environment, life events and people she loves. Her paintings are inhabited by tiny portraits of the people in her life which she illustrates by creating imaginary worlds. She says of her work:

 “I use painting to focus deeply on individuals, places and activities that bring me joy, like a visual gratitude diary.

Swimming and water are a major theme for me and symbolise happiness. I am an ardent swimmer and l share this love of water with my six siblings and have passed this on to my own children who feature swimming and diving in many of my paintings.”

Yapp is fond of using vibrant, pure, jewel- like colours and reflective effects, that remind viewers of sunshine and holidays. She focuses on applying contrasting hues and tones, trying to make them “sing” and vibrate against each other, resulting in pure joy.
