For the past year I am revisiting my interest in narrative painting, using my immediate surroundings and images of loved ones as inspiration during lockdown.

My garden studio is a great escape during lockdown and I am inspired by the surrounding wildlife and the calmness. I am also revisiting narrative portraits of myself, close friends and family during this difficult time. I see potential in everything which makes me a great teacher but a hard to pin down artist. So forgive me. My work is inspired by my compulsive need to recycle, to find beauty in the overlooked and abandoned. I work  in paint, monoprint or simple assemblage in a direct response to the vernacular. Pre lockdown prints were centred around life cycles, starting from bone shapes and then printed and overlapped to create egg shapes. My many collections of found objects include unexplained family photographs discovered in a bin bag in Deptford Market, bones, driftwood, and shoe soles collected on beach walks, and vintage linoleum found in the skips of South London. They have all spawned years of imagery in a range of media.
