Ruth Greenwood is an artist and printmaker based in south-east London. Her work is rooted in close observation and a quiet fascination with everyday objects, baroque still life and the natural world. Flowers, oak trees, apples and familiar domestic forms often become starting points for thoughtful studies of colour, line and atmosphere. Ruth first built a creative career in costume design, working across theatre, television and film. After 14 years away from developing her own artistic practice, she returned to painting and drawing with renewed focus, following a long-held pull towards making art.

Ruth went on to study printmaking at Thames-Side Printmakers Studio with master printmaker Nick Richards, learning etching techniques on aluminium, copper, zinc and steel, as well as the careful process of inking and printing images by hand. She later joined the studio and continued to deepen her technical knowledge, beginning with botanical illustration and exploring how colour changes through different metals and inks. A traditional calligraphy pen inherited from her maternal grandparent helped shape the precise, expressive line that runs through much of her work. Today, Ruth’s practice brings together observational drawing, lived experience and the tactile qualities of printmaking. Working with line and aquatint on steel, she creates contemplative still life compositions with muted colours, shadowed backdrops and a sensitive attention to fleeting moments.
