Using my own drawings and photographs, a range of self-styled processes and recurring motifs, I create multi layered collections which combine the current scientific, psychological and social landscape with the idea of environment and landscape itself. If you would like to acquire my art please come to one of our groups shows or visit Sign up via my website for my free newsletter or follow me on Instagram @susiesatelier.

‘susiesatelier’ is my online gallery, a physical space and an umbrella for collaboration. I curate my own solos shows annually and participate regularly in group events and exhibitions. You are very welcome to visit my atelier in person to see my latest work and learn more about my working processes by appointment, see link under contact on my website

My self styled processes include; confetti drifts, digital spills, the pull of gravity, random connections, word play, Co2 puffs, re-purposed papers and machine duplicated drawings. I use walking, gathering objects and photographs on my way, a process which I call ‘swalkeling’, as a random way of letting discovery throw ideas into my work.

Recurring motifs seen in my art include; alarm circuits, cosmic vector waves, breathe / lungs, references to global news events and architectural space. I use a range of media, including painting, mono print, collage, thread work, digital drawing and spoken and written word to explore themes which include the power of the earth and its energy, climate change, nature and culture, the individual and civil society.

My art work plays on the tension between

  • abstraction and representation,

  • connectivity and dislocation,

  • meaning and decoration,

  • chance and self determination.

They are works made to ignite your curiosity and create a series of conversation pieces for the domestic interior, the gallery space or the expanded field.

I set up my atelier in 2020, working as an artist full time, after a career sharing my passion for and leading in art and design education and access to the arts in Schools, Adult and Community Learning and Universities. Working for many years as an arts professional, as a senior lecturer and curator in various institutions including Chelsea College of Art and Design, Working Men’s College and Morley College, London.

A number of my works are in private collections in the UK, USA, Netherlands and Germany.
